About Taverna Alfacinha

Taverna Alfacinha in Lisbon is one of those places that instantly makes you feel like you’ve stumbled upon a local treasure. Located on R. dos Sapateiros, it blends authentic Portuguese flavors with a warm, old-world charm that perfectly fits the city’s spirit. The atmosphere is welcoming from the moment you step inside, with rustic décor, cozy seating, and a vibe that feels both relaxed and full of character.

What makes Taverna Alfacinha stand out is its dedication to traditional Portuguese dishes done right. Expect to find classics like grilled fish, tender meats, and hearty stews that remind you of homemade comfort food. Each dish is prepared with fresh ingredients and an attention to flavor that makes every bite memorable. The menu also offers a good balance between lighter plates and rich, filling meals, giving guests plenty of options depending on what they’re in the mood for.

Adding to the experience is the way meals are paired with carefully selected wines. Portugal is known for its wine culture, and here, the pairings are thoughtfully chosen to enhance the dishes without overshadowing them. Whether it’s a crisp white to go with seafood or a bold red to match a meaty stew, the balance works beautifully.

Tiny and cute restaurant with great food and friendly service. We ordered 2 veggie soups, local cheese, bread, muscles appetizer, and whole fish main course. And that was more than enough for two people. Portions were quite big.

What a hidden gem! Cracking authentic Portuguese seafood restaurant. Right in the centre of busy town, but not touristic. Very small space with limited tables and chairs. Every one of them is full, because the food is so good. Highly recommend any of the paella. All of the dishes that everyone was eating looked fantastic. Great service. Friendly staff. Good prices. Good quality food. Highly recommended.

We followed the ratings and reviews to this petite restaurant, which we almost missed while walking past. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by friendly and attentive staff, who looked after us throughout our visit. The menu is small but well thought out, offering something for everyone. We started with olives and Nisa cheese, which made for a pleasant, simple beginning. For mains, my daughter had the salmon, which was perfectly cooked and served with fresh vegetables, while I chose the chicken paella — a generous and flavourful dish with plenty of tender chicken. Both dishes were delicious and ones we’d happily order again. For dessert, we tried the cheesecake and mango mousse. While enjoyable enough, they appeared to be shop-bought rather than freshly made, and we likely wouldn’t choose them again. Overall, we had a lovely experience. The cosy atmosphere adds to the charm, though if you prefer more space around you while dining, this might not be your ideal setting. Still, for friendly service and tasty, honest food, Taverna Alfacinha is well worth a visit.
